Formovie has generated a lot of buzz in the world of projection since they unleashed their uber popular 4K UST, the Formovie Theater. They're keeping that going by announcing their newest projector for 2024, the Formovie Xming Episode One.

Only a few months ago, Formovie announced their Xming Page One portable projector to much excitement. We anticipate an equal level for the new more budget friendly Episode One.

This newer compact projector is the little brother of their also recently released Xming Page One. Like the Page One, the Formovie Episode One is being released under their independent sub-brand, Xming. This allows these compact devices to utilize the Google TV platform, which means these are Netflix projectors thanks to a native app.

Brightness

Like it's sibling, the Xming Episode One is an LCD projector that's lit by a LED light-source. These projection technologies allow the Episode One to maximize the brightness output while minimalizing the power required.

This portable projector puts out a respectable 150 CVIA lumens (roughly 122 ANSI lumens). This means it's brighter than many other small projectors in its class such as the Nebula Capsule.

That being said you'll need a darkened environment to fully enjoy the content on your screen. If you need additional lumen output but still want the portability we'd recommend either the Xming Page One with 500 CVIA lumens or the 4K Formovie X5.

Picture Quality

For most casual movie and TV watchers, the 1080p resolution would look fantastic. The Xming Episode One offers a sharp picture with great clarity.

With an impressive 1500:1 contrast ratio, this new compact projector will give you deep darks and vivid brights allowing you to see the picture clearly without looking washed out.

The Xming Episode One is capable of producing an image size from 40 to 120 inches. This makes it perfect for small to medium sized rooms. While the lower light output will limit you to dark spaces, with the light off you'll have enough lumens to fill a sizeable screen with a vibrant image.

Portability

The Formovie Xming Episode One is made for portability. This little guy is lightweight and compact. It weighs 2.8 pounds and measures 6.9 x 4.8 x 5.6 inches. This makes it easy to move around and a great option for smaller movie nights in the backyard.

You can even get an adjustable stand that makes set up even easier.

We would have liked to see a built-in battery for true portability but the small size and smart features still make on-the-go set up a breeze.

Smart Features

Speaking of those smart features, the Xming Episode One offers point and play thanks to the auto keystone and autofocus technology. This means you just place your device down and this smart projector will square off and optimize your image.

The Xming Episode One runs on the Google TV OS, this means you get access to a hundreds of streaming apps, including Netflix.

It also has Chromecast built-in, so you can cast media from a smartphone or compatible device and show it on your projector.

With regards to connectivity the Formovie Episode One offers wireless connectivity options including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It also features a HDMI 2.1 input, a USB-A input, and a 3.5 mm analog jack that can connect to headphones or an external speaker.

Built-In Speakers

While you can connect speakers via the 3.5 mm output you don't need to. That's because the Xming Episode One is a true all-in-one projector thanks to the built-in speakers.

The Xming Episode One offers 2x 3-watt internal speakers. While this built-in audio won't blow your socks off, it's more than adequate for a casual movie watcher.

It also supports Dolby Atmos when using a compatible sound system.

How Much Does The Xming Episode One Cost?

The Formovie Xming Episode One has a price tag of $299. This makes it an affordable option for the casual movie or television fan while still providing a great picture. For an all-in-one smart projector like this, you'll be getting a fantastic value.
